“ROCKING PEVENSEY BAY COLLECTS £1570 FOR CHARITY

On 26 July 2008 Bob & Shirley together with their neighbours, Graham, Sue, Rob and Chris, held a beach party in their gardens.  The party had affectionately become known as PEVFEST as we had live music and “Pevfesters” brought their own picnics resulting in a great atmosphere for those who attended or listened close by.

Not only were they blessed with glorious weather, but they had an impromptu air display from a local aviator and mackerel decided to visit, giving great fun for those swimming in the sea at the time!

There were only four bands: The Jam Nites, who play at The Smugglers in Pevensey on Thursdays, started off the party at about 1.45 pm; the Boys followed, playing Shadows music ; then followed by Jason from the Croydon Crooners, often playing at The Beach Tavern in Pevensey Bay and topped by The Replays, which is an excellent Southern based cover Band. They had invited Sir Paul McCartney to join the band on the day but he was otherwise engaged  but the band played some Beatles numbers brilliantly without him. The estimated turnout for the day was 300 "how great is that for a beach party in your garden.

But what made the day really worthwhile was the collection for two charities; Leukaemia research in memory of a friend who loved visiting Pevensey Bay and died two days before his sixteenth birthday of a very aggressive and sudden onset of Leukaemia and for PARLEY ( Parents And Relatives Empathising With You ), a Sussex based charity which supports  families with children in hospital.

Now in 2010 we look to improve on the previous 2 years collections and have an even better turnout Very generously, the bands are providing their time and assistance free of.

A Very Big Thank You to both Bob & Shirley who both work tirelesly and without them there would be no PevFest
